CUPPING THERAPY
Cupping
So, what does cupping therapy do? It can help reduce pain, improve blood and lymphatic flow, and facilitate the body’s natural healing process.
Cupping therapy benefits work great in conjunction with, you guessed it, movement! I perform both light soft tissue massage following the cupping treatment as well as have you perform some active movements.
There are a lot of techniques that can be used during cupping therapy, but the specific technique I choose for the treatment session will be the one that is most beneficial for you. The suction cups can be applied in one spot and left in place, can be applied and slid across a larger area, or be paired with an instructed movement.
Where do I commonly use the cups? Really, anywhere! I have many sizes that are as small as being able to fit behind the neck, to larger ones that can cover the larger muscles of the back, IT band, or quad! I can place multiple cups on during one treatment session.
I also have found cupping therapy to be very beneficial to c-section scars or helping with general scar mobility, as well as fascia or muscle tissue that feels like it lacks mobility!
This treatment usually takes 15-20 minutes as the cups are usually not on the body for more than a few minutes, depending on your tissue reaction. This is up to my discretion and your comfort.
Expect local redness and swelling after treatment which usually disappears over the next 3-5 days, depending on how your skin reacts. A coconut butter lotion is also used in the session so please let me know if you have allergies to that before the session.
