FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
R3 was inspired by women that have a lot on their plate and would prefer a comfortable in-home PT experience. They also see it’s weight in gold to have one on one care with the same PT each visit, direct contact to the PT outside of appointments, longer appointments, a provider that addresses the whole body and understands how it’s all connected, and not to mention the convenience of coming to them! If you’re going to take the time to commit to a PT plan of care, you might as well do it the best way, right!?
If you have additional questions about working with R3 Mobile PT or want to talk about your specific concerns, please book a discovery call to talk to Dr. Johnson.

I have a few! To start, I am BOTH a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist and Orthopedic Physical Therapist.
I treat pelvic floor concerns by addressing all of the musculature of the pelvis BOTH externally and internally, but always start “externally" and find I rarely need to do internal work. You can do so much for your pelvic floor by addressing the rest of your body and simply being educated about how it all works together.
I also love helping women with postpartum recovery including after a c-section, returning to exercise as well as throughout their pregnancy with birth prep sessions for an unmedicated home birth or un/medicated hospital birth, round ligament pain, SIJ pain, & exercising throughout the trimesters.
I also have taken a specialty course for Tummy Tuck/Mommy Makeover rehab and love guiding women through this journey and optimizing their results.
Orthopedic PT encompasses all of the joints of the body from the head to toe. For example, I can absolutely treat your hip and knee pain, plantar fasciitis, low back pain or sciatica, neck pain, posture concerns, vertigo, and more. I often times see women with multiple concerns, and because I am cash pay I can address it all in the same visit!

No, I am considered out of network with all insurances. However, I do write superbills- this would work if you have out of network benefits for PT and will still go towards your deductible!
I believe it is in your best interest to pay cash for PT and have no restrictions on the plan of care that WE create, what we do during treatment sessions, and the number of visits you may need/want.
It is SO often that my patients will be seeing me for their knee or low back, but one day have a bout of vertigo for example, and because I am cash pay, I CAN help them right then and there. If I contracted insurance I wouldn’t be able to touch that area because they wouldn’t cover that treatment. See how that would not be in your favor? That’s just one example!

I accept FSA, HSA, cash, checks, card, apple pay. I require to have a credit card on file for any late cancelation fees.
The eval is paid upfront to reserve your time slot.
After the eval I will be able to tell you how many treatment sessions I recommend, and create a custom plan of care. My average number of treatment sessions quoted are 4-6 total after the eval.
Payments for treatments are billed automatically in monthly installments.

Being cash-pay is in your best interest as a patient if you value holistic health care that isn’t based on margins, billing a certain amount of units per day, and profits.
It also allows us to look at the whole body, not just 1 joint, because if you didn’t know, insurance companies require a separate eval/plan of care for each concern, joint by joint.
For example, if you had hip pain, that would have to be a separate plan of care from your pelvic floor concerns, crazy, right?!
Your concerns are likely very related, but not in insurance’s eyes. If I was to start doing treatment for your pelvic floor on your “hip plan of care”, reimbursement would likely not be given.
By paying cash, I am free to treat you holistically and address all of your concerns on OUR terms.
Who are they to tell us how many visits you need? Insurance typically only reimburses services until you are near or at your baseline- wouldn’t you want to EXCEED your baseline?
If you were to go to a clinic that takes insurance, you would still be paying cash until your ($5,000?) deductible was met.
Additionally, you’d likely need a script from your primary care for PT which may require an in person office visit prior to starting PT. With being cash pay, you can call me up and get booked immediately- no script needed.

I treat about half and half with exercise and manual therapy techniques, but of course it depends on your needs.
Sometimes there are sessions where we are working through scar tissue on the table for a while, and other times where I don’t even set my treatment table up because we’re exercising the whole time!
If we do use manual techniques, I’ll start the session with them, such as cupping therapy, lymphatic drainage massage, joint mobilization work, some myofascial release and sacral mobilizations, and then follow it up with exercise so we can solidify the gains we just made through the manual therapy that is otherwise temporary.
I perform manipulations to the spine and extremities. You can read in depth about treatments here

Short answer is NO, it’s always up to your consent which can change at any point of any treatment session.
I always let moms know if I am even considering it as a treatment in their specific plan of care. I do not feel it’s a necessity to do on every woman “just because/ just to assess.”
-
No! I don’t do internal pelvic floor exams on the evaluation and would give you a heads up if I thought it was going to be in your plan of care. You always have the option to NOT consent to any internal exams.
-
It is required that you pay for the services you receive to R3 Mobile PT upfront and then upon request I can create a bill with codes for you to submit to your insurance company following the treatment session.
Unfortunately, I have no control over and can’t guarantee what services they reimburse, if any.
Reach out to your insurance company if you’re interested in this to see what would likely be covered with your plan prior to your session so there are no surprises from insurance! I will not alter any documentation or plans of care for your benefit of using health share/ insurance purposes.
-
Yes! I can provide a receipt of your purchase upon request as well.

I travel the whole Phoenix metro area.
There is a travel fee for those outside of my free, 20 mile radius, which usually spans from State Farm Stadium to North Peoria/Vistancia, to Desert Ridge.
I will be able to quote you on the discovery call when you input your address on the inquire form. Driving fees range from $10-$30 per treatment session.

You do not have to have a home gym, as long as you have some sort of open space in your living room, backyard, garage, office- that’ll do!
I bring a portable treatment table and exercise equipment we may need! We also spend time in conversation which we can do at your kitchen table or couch!
-
I took a specialty course for post tummy tuck rehab because NO ONE talks about how major of a recovery and surgery it is and I wanted to understand the surgery, complications, and what the recovery process should look like for best results and optimal outcomes!
Recovery looks different for everyone, but you have a brand new core and it’s one of my favorite things to help women connect with again.
I can see women pre-surgery and post-op as early as 1 week post-op. I love being in collaboration with your surgeon as well to enforce their protocols.
Schedule a call with me to talk through what rehab may look like for your specific case.
-
Fortunately, no! AZ is a “direct access state” Yay!
Super easy. BUT, if you plan to submit self-claims to your insurance company or health share, they MAY require it, so reach out to your insurance provider to clarify prior to submitting for reimbursement.

I generally say whatever you would be comfortable working out at the gym in, or going to a pilates class! For example, leggings or joggers and a tank top or shorts and a t-shirt. You’ll also likely be barefoot.
-
You do not have to be in any stage of motherhood to work with me, I love treating general orthopedic concerns a gal may have!
I have just found a special interest for those in their motherhood journey.
I will see men if the wife is present during the session.
-
Depending on your past medical history, commitment to following through with your homework, current activity level, seeing change may take anywhere from 4-8 visits.
Duration of your plan of care is something I am able to gauge and communicate with you after an initial evaluation and after we establish your goals. Generally I see women once every other week to start and taper off from there.

I would say 80% of my plans of care are in collaboration with chiropractors around the valley. A lot of my expecting moms see them in addition to me.
To answer your question, I do like chiros! Of course there are some good and some bad in literally every profession. I tend to love the chiros that also treat holistically and listen to my patient.
I also offer manipulations in my practice but I tend to use them differently than a lot of chiros, which isn’t a bad thing- just a treatment style choice.
