Pelvic Floor PT Answering: Why Do I Pee My Pants When I Sneeze?

HI FRIEND,

In today's episode I go through the 4 reasons that you pee your pants when you sneeze and cough. I know what you're thinking, it only happens if you have a full bladder, right?!

Well, I'm going to let you in on a secret- that's actually a myth! Bladder fullness shouldn't actually affect your ability to stay dry. If you’re a podcast girly, you can listen to all the details of the 4+ reasons you may have bladder leakage and understand the whole picture.

If not, here are some of the highlights of what I educate on:

-glut clenching: are you unconsciously doing this and creating pelvic floor tightness?

-pelvic floor tightness: do you have pelvic floor tightness that is contributing to your bladder leakage? (I have an episode on this to identify hallmark signs that you do!)

-constipation: my favorite, did you know we should be pooping at least 1 time per day, it should be easy to pass, and be a sausage-brat consistency?

-poor pressure management: this is essentially the bread and butter of the sneezing, coughing, yelling, singing, and laughing! These activities create a lot of pressure in our abdomen and if our pelvic floor is not ready and able to combat/ support that pressure… well you can guess what happens.

-posture: this is a full body thing, and in the podcast I talk about an example from one of my patients who works from home and was only leaking when she sat for a long time- we talk about her SOLUTION to it in the episode!

The best thing about all of these things is we can treat and help all of the above so that you no longer pee your pants with sneezing, coughing, running, jumping, and squatting all inside my self paced course Stop Peeing Your Pants!
